Belajar Dari Po

“… you are a loser!”

Dia berkata,” If you never do what you can’t do, you will never be more than what you are now!”.

Kemudian, Po berkata,” I don’t wanna be more. I like who I am!”.

Learn for the Future

Inspired by Her

I heard it in 2008 and hear it again now –this notion that the only reason one would support Hillary Clinton is because she is a woman — or only because she is experienced and smart. She is all of those things. But I am with her because…

Hillary Clinton inspires me.

Watching Hillary talk policy moves me. She doesn’t speak in euphemisms or generalized outrage. When she answers questions in debates and interviews, her command of the issues is evident. She knows every fact, listens to every viewpoint, has considered every contingency, and formulated a plan. She does so on such wide ranging topics from illegal immigration, to vaccine development, to climate change, and beyond. That doesn’t take just smarts, or work, that takes passion and decades of dedication.

Following Hillary’s fight amazes me. When they told her in 1995 not to go to China and talk about human…

Cheerful man in nature arms outstretched for positive emotion Cheerful man in nature arms outstretched for positive emotion

As we move through this life we are constantly changing and adapting to new perceptions of what we believe is real and what is not. A process that requires intentionality and a commitment to listening and internalizing when we hear a suggestion that may be different than what we already believe to hold validity or what we have already dismissed to be completely fallacious.

This year let us be committed to balancing the truths that we have already learned with new beliefs and thoughts on life.

With a commitment to taking a new path when we leave our front door, this journey will lead us on a path that we never even knew existed but is anxiously awaiting our arrival.

There is a comforting unity in knowing that if we all continue to share our current truths with one another then…

Amigo Brothers

Antonio Cruz and Felix Vargas were both seventeen years old. They were so together in friendship that they felt themselves to be brothers. They had known each other since childhood, growing up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in the same tenement building on Fifth Street between Avenue A and Avenue B. Antonio was fair, lean, and lanky, while Felix was dark, short, and husky. Antonio’s hair was always falling over his eyes, while Felix wore his black hair in a natural Afro style. Each youngster had a dream of someday becoming lightweight champion of the world. Every chance they had, the boys worked out, sometimes at the Boys’ Club on 10th Street and Avenue A and sometimes at the pro’s gym on 14th Street. Early morning sunrises would find them running along the East River Drive, wrapped in sweat shirts, short towels around their necks, and…

The Scholarship Jacket

(Source: dallas.about.com)

The small Texas school that I went to had a tradition carried out every year during the eighth-grade graduation: a beautiful gold and green jacket (the school colors) was awarded to the class valedictorian, the student who had maintained the highest grades for eight years. The scholarship jacket had a big gold S on the left front side and your name written in gold letters on the pocket. My oldest sister, Rosie, had won the jacket a few years back, and I fully expected to also. I was fourteen and in the eighth grade. I had been a straight A student since the first grade and this last year had looked forward very much to owning that jacket.

My father was a farm laborer who couldn’t earn enough money to feed eight children, so when I was six I was given to my grandparents to raise. We couldn’t…

“Ready ?”

“Ready.”

“Now ?”

“Soon.”

“Do the scientists really know? Will it happen today, will it ?”

“Look, look; see for yourself !”

The children pressed to each other like so many roses, so many weeds, intermixed, peering out for a look at the hidden sun.

It rained.

It had been raining for seven years; thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to the other with rain, with the drum and gush of water, with the sweet crystal fall of showers and the concussion of storms so heavy they were tidal waves come over the islands. A thousand forests had been crushed under the rain and grown up a thousand times to be crushed again. And this was the way life was forever on the planet Venus, and this was the schoolroom of the children of the rocket men and women who had…
